Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali has directed that overall goals set for the ongoing targeted action against criminals should be achieved at every level to restore law and order and protect the life and property of the people.
The IGP issued this directive after reviewing the progress report on the ongoing targeted action in the metropolis from September 05, 2013 to February 05, 2015. He also called for making more effective police's co-ordination with other law enforcement agencies through sharing information to further expedite crackdown against criminals, a handout issued here on Sunday said.
According to the report 45,300 suspects were arrested and huge quantity of arms and ammunition recovered in 2,483 police encounters and 43,757 raids in various areas of the city.
The report stated that 1,344 gangs of criminals were busted in the city. The overall arrested accused included suspected murderers, terrorists, extortionists, and kidnapping for ransom suspects.
In the report further informed that 1,443 people were arrested for murder, 502 for terrorism, 108 kidnapping for ransom, 473 extortionists, 2,329 dacoits, 8,972 for possessing unlicensed arms, 7,223 under Drugs Act, 583 proclaimed offenders, 7,990 absconders and 15,677 in different other crimes.
It was stated in the report that police recovered four LMGs, 243 Kalashnikovs/S M Gs, 10,661 pistols/revolvers, 191 rifles and 173 shotguns as well as 456 kilogram explosive material, 09 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 11 suicide jackets and 896 hand grenades/bombs.
