Rawalpindi Police sent behind the bars 252 proclaimed offenders and 117 court absconders in January while seven gangs of dacoits were busted during the period as police arrested 37 members of these gangs from different areas of the district said Rawalpindi Police spokesman. He said, police also recovered nine stolen motorcycles, two cars, looted items worth over Rs 2.2 million and weapons from their possession.
The spokesman said that Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Umar Hayat Lalika and City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Humayun Bashir Tarar had assigned the task to all SDPOs and SHOs to curb activities of mischievous elements through high vigilance and effective policing.
Following these directives, strict patrolling was being maintained here in the district and in January, police busted seven gangs of dacoits and arrested 37 outlaws. Some 156 other criminals were also sent behind the bars during the period.
He said police conducted special raids and rounded up 252 POs and 117 CAs during last month.
Pirwadhai police rounded up six members of TT gang and recovered four stolen motorcycles besides six pistols. Rawat police busted Faisal car lifter gang. Similarly, Naseerabad police smashed two gangs of bandits by arresting their members involved in several cases of road robberies and auto-lifting.
The spokesman said that Rawalpindi police under its crackdown against drug paddlers nabbed 274 accused and registered 272 cases during January. Police also recovered 97.7 kilograms charas, 2298 bottles of liquor, 3.6 kg heroin and 1.5 kg opium from their possession.
Rawalpindi district police apprehended 162 persons and recovered a Kalashnikov, two rifles, 122 pistols, six revolvers, nine repeaters 12 bore, 1046 rounds, 75 kilogram explosive and 12 daggers.
He said 21 FIRs were registered during January on violation of Sound System Ordinance. 44 persons for violating renting rules were also arrested while four cases were registered on violation of wall-chalking ban.
