Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Mehmood Khan has said that construction of the Gomal Zam dam has been approved and construction work on it was in full swing. He expressed these views while talking to a local people and officials of the Irrigation Department during his two-day visit to D I Khan. Besides, KP Minister for Revenue Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur and other officials were also present on the occasion.
The KP provincial minister said that the completion of ongoing irrigation schemes will help irrigate 1,91,000 acres of agricultural land while for the Left Irrigation Canal, he said the KP provincial government was in contact with the federal government. The completion of the project will help bring 2,86,000 acres of barren land under cultivation.
These projects will not only help improve the economic conditions of the local population, but will also turn the province self-sufficient in farm productions.
The Irrigation Minister said the KP provincial government during last one and half year has made record legislation for establishment of the rule of law, empowering people at gross-root level, provision of better services, granting autonomy of public sector organisations and not only making legislation for the access of people to information, but has also provided an effective mechanism for guaranteeing enforcement of these laws. Earlier, the provincial minister carried surprise inspection of de-silting in RBC Canal and expressed his dissatisfaction over the de-silting and warned the concerned EXN and directed them for completion of de-silting within the specific time period so tail-end farmers could also get sufficient irrigation water.
The minister warned that no negligence would be tolerated on behalf of any officer or employee in the current de-silting campaign and hinted at taking stern action in this regard.
