Captain (retd) Safdar, son-in-law of deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been shifted to Adiala jail by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday.

The NAB team presented Safdar before the accountability court in the morning amid tight security, local media reported. During his brief appearance before the court, media personnel were barred from entering the court premises. He was then shifted to Adiala jail after appearing before the court.

Safdar surrendered to NAB on Sunday after a power show in Rawalpindi where he addressed Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) workers. He was then taken to the bureau's regional office.

On Friday, Safdar was sentenced to one year in jail by the accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir in the Avenfield reference case. Safdar is also barred from contesting the upcoming general elections on July 25.

The court also slapped a fine of of £8 million on Nawaz and £2 million on Maryam. Orders were also issued to confiscate Sharif family’s Avenfield apartment in London.

The court also sentenced Nawaz and his daughter Maryam to 10 and seven year in prison, respectively. The duo is returning from London on July 13 at 6:15 pm Lahore.
