The rupee inched down in terms of the dollar on the local currency market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed three-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.46 and Rs 101.49 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee held the overnight levels versus the dollar for the second day for buying and selling at Rs 101.50 and Rs 101.70 respectively, but it continued fall versus the euro, falling 50-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 115.00 and Rs 115.25 respectively, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the euro took a dip as euro zone finance ministers failed to secure a new debt agreement with Greece after a marathon meeting, while the Australian dollar dived almost one percent after surprisingly weak local jobs data.
The common currency slipped to $1.1309 from a high of $1.1353 while it eased to 135.95 yen, having earlier scaled a three-week peak of 136.70. Against sterling it pulled back to 74.20 pence, having hit a seven-year trough of 73.85 on Wednesday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.39, the greenback was at 3.6230 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at available at 6.2473 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained downward against the US dollar on the local currency market on Thursday. According to the currency dealers, the dollar was opened on a healthy note and registered further gain following rising demand. At close of trading, the dollar was ended higher at Rs 101.60 and Rs 101.85 as its buying and selling rate against Rs 101.50 and Rs 101.75 of Wednesday, respectively, the dealers said.
Likewise, the rupee remained weak and was further declined against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 154.00 and Rs 154.25 on buying and selling counter compared with overnight closing of Rs 153.85 and Rs 154.20, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday. The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
