A lower court here on Friday rejected an application filed by Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the main accused in the 2008 Mumbai terrorists attack, seeking acquittal in a kidnapping case registered against him. Lakhvi has filed the application in the trial court, seeking acquittal in the abduction case registered against him at the Golra police station in Islamabad.
Judicial Magistrate Naveed Khan reserved the verdict on Lakhvi's application after hearing arguments from both sides on February 10, 2015. However, the court on Friday announced verdict on the application in which it rejected Lakhvi's application. The public prosecutor argued that Mohammad Dawood had filed a complaint at the Golra police station Islamabad, saying that Lakhvi had abducted his brother-in-law, Anwar Khan, to wage 'Jihad' six and a half years ago, adding that investigation of the case is in initial stage and some more time is required for further investigation.
He contended that investigation in the case is still underway so until it is completed, the FIR against Lakhvi cannot be dismissed. While Rizwan Abbasi, counsel for Lakhvi, argued that the police have arrested his client in a six-year-old fake case. He added that Lakhvi was under detention in the Mumbai terrorists attack case since last six year then how could he kidnap a person during detention.
Earlier, Lakhvi was granted post-arrest bail by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on December 18, 2014, in the Mumbai terrorists attack case but the federal government has extended Lakhvi's detention for three months in Adiala prison under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO). The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the detention order of Lakhvi and ordered his release. However, barely hours after his release the First Investigation Report (FIR) has been registered against Lakhvi at the Golra police station Islamabad over alleged abduction of a man, Anwar Khan.
