The rupee moved cautiously against the dollar on the money market on Monday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee drifted lower versus the dollar modestly, slipping by five-paisa for buying Rs 101.50 and two-paisa for selling at Rs 101.52, respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee showed no variation in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.40 and Rs 101.60, respectively, while it dropped by 10-paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 115.10 and Rs 115.35, respectively, they said.
In the first Asian trade, the euro edged up on hopes that Greece and euro zone finance ministers will find common ground to support Greece beyond the expiry of the current bailout programme at the end of February. Ahead of euro zone finance ministers' meeting on Monday, Greece said it was confident of reaching agreement in negotiations with its euro zone partners, while reiterating it would not accept harsh austerity strings in any debt pact.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.18, the greenback was at 3.5745 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.247 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee staged recovery and gained 15-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading on a depressed note and remained under pressure in the absence of buyers' interest. At close of trading, the dollar was ended at Rs 101.50 and Rs 101.75 against Rs 101.65 and Rs 101.90 of last Saturday, respectively, the dealers said.
Likewise, the rupee also remained weak and slightly declined against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rate was improved from last week closing of Rs 155.50 and Rs 155.75 to Rs 155.55 and Rs 155.80, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
