A one-day final year students' project exhibition 2015 was held at the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT), University of Sindh, here on Thursday.
A large number of students from four departments of the institute including information technology, telecommunication, electronics & software engineering showcased their projects covering over five categories including web-based applications, hardware design, e-commerce applications, e-health & telemedicine, e-government, communication system, multimedia and regionalisation.
Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Professor Dr Abdul Rasool Abbasi inaugurated the exhibition. Director IICT Dr Lachhman Das briefed the Dean about the projects. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Abbasi said he was happy to know that the institute had been organising the exhibition for the last 15 years. He praised the students for preparing innovative projects, saying that the projects were unique and precious. "We provide a platform to our students so that they can showcase their talent," he said adding that the varsity also invited different software companies to hire talented students of the university.
He regretted that there was a sense of despondency among the youth, who preferred going abroad after completing their education. "It is our responsibility to stop the brain drain so that these young people could work wholeheartedly for the progress of the country," he added.
Dr Lachhman Das in his briefing said that a total of 120 projects had been displayed at the exhibition, which included 46 BS Information Technology, 38 BS Software Engineering, 18 BS Telecommunications and 18 BS Electronics. The projects displayed at the exhibition included: student attendance system, management system, user centric advertisements using software sensors, semi-supervised expert system for medicine, online admission & testing system, fire extinguisher robot, hybrid renewable energy generation systems, rail track, power humps and wind turbines, 3G-based controls for smart home applications, solar energy mobile device charging systems, wireless electricity, point of Sale application, inventory management system for New Developing Local Super Market and E-Education Systems were exhibited under E-Health & Telemedicine category. Similarly, Blood Bank Management System using Software Sensors, Extraction of Blood Vessels from Heart Angiogram Images, Cancer Cell Detection from Protein Blood Cells, Online Railway Reservation System, Pre-paid Billing System and Automated Theft Detection for Electricity Providers, Online Crime File Management System, Communication Systems, Optimisation of Satellite Link on Earth using Satellite Toolkit, Free Space Optics, Rain Effect Communication, Millimeter Wave Communication for 5G, Free Space Optics fog model communication, HCI Related Projects, Notify Me: A Context Awareness Systems, Home Automation using Facial Expressions for a Single User projects were also demonstrated.
In Multimedia category, Radiance School Management System, Video based learning system through Live Streaming (VBLS), Interactive Learning System for Primary Schools, Online Interactive Sindhi Language Learning System, Design and Development of Online Video Lecture System were displayed.
In Regionalization category, Modelling of Seven Soormies using Shah-jo-Risalo (Clay Animation Technique), Android Application, Biometric Based Employees Identification and Verification system and Digital Counting System for Buses of University of Sindh projects were exhibited. Those who supervised the projects are: Dr Asad Ali Shaikh, Dr Shahzad Memon, Dr Ghulam Ali Jareko, Anil Kumar, Nisar Memon, Sandar Khuwaja, Syed Raza Hussain Shah, Shahid Hussain Larik, Mudassar Memon, Shazia Abbasi and Shahnawaz Shah.
