Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Wednesday announced setting up of a 'Turkey Special Economic Zone' provided that Islamabad extends the logistic support. "It is good to hear that Turkey and Pakistan are brotherly countries, but it is time to be more rationale and futuristic," said Davutoglu before leaving for Istanbul.
The Board of Investment recently organised a very successful Pak-Turkey Business Forum at a local hotel wherein more than 250 prominent investors/businessmen and eight federal ministers participated. The forum was attended by the visiting Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister of State/Chairman BoI Dr Miftah Ismail and 15 Turkish private investors.
Addressing the forum, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the government initiated a plan to set up 3,600-megawatt LNG-fired power plants and by mid-2017 there would be ample electricity for the industrial sector.
Top businessmen from Pakistan attended the forum and B2B meetings. They included Anwar Saifullah Khan, Razzaq Dawood, Naveed Malik, Naseer S Jaffar, Yawar Ali, Sikandar Mustafa, Mian Muhammad Idress, Major General Bilal (r), Afaq Tiwana, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Air Marshal Javed Ahmed, Ghulam Sarwar Malik, Shahid Sohail Khan and many others for B2B meetings with Turkish counterparts in 10 different major sectors, ie, automotive parts, infrastructure, energy, beverages, air transportation, aerospace, agriculture, construction, electronics and furniture. Dr Miftah Ismail addressing the forum highlighted the investment potential and opportunities available in Pakistan.
