The Capital police are making foolproof security arrangements for the Pakistan Day parade in collaboration with the army to ensure that no untoward incident takes place on March 23. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mir Vais Niaz, while speaking at a press conference, said that the city police were actively co-ordinating with the General Headquarters (GHQ) regarding security arrangements for the Pakistan Day parade.
"The district administration has decided to close some seminaries in the federal capital before March 23 due to security reasons," he said. He said that following the terrorist attack on Imambargah Qasr-e-Sakina Bint-e-Hussain on February 16, the city police have enhanced security of Imambargahs and mosques located in different parts of the city. "The police team is continuously conducting search operation in the city and have also enhanced vigilance in Shakrial and adjacent areas," he said.
To a question regarding the attack on senior Dr Shahid Nawaz of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) who succumbed to injuries on Friday, said that the attack was conducted in highly professional manner and the police have requested secret agencies for help to make headway in investigation of the case.
He said the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad Police has busted three gangs of dacoits and car snatchers besides recovering gold ornaments, motorbikes, cars and weapons from their possessions. Mir Vais Niaz said that a special police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon, comprising ASIs, Suleman Shah, Tipu Sultan, Ameer Sajjad and Saleem Raza, nabbed 12 gangsters and recovered gold ornaments, two Honda bikes, electronic equipment, 15 mobiles phones, dagger, a Toyota Corolla car and spare parts of snatched vehicles from their possession.
He said that arrested people were identified as Malik Waqas, Arsalan Qamar, Muhammad Raees, Umer Ali, Zulfiqar Ali, Waqas Shaker, Noman Mansoor, Shahad Zaman, Bilal Ahmed, Waqas, Muhammad Arshad and Nazakat Hussain. Accused Arshad and Nazakat Hussain were also involved in snatching a cab (M-6802) near Dhok Kala Khan after hiring it and attempting robberies on it near the Islamabad Club after changing its number plate, he said.
The SSP said that they snatched Suzuki Cultus (RLD-2666) and mobile phone from Farrukh Abbas, resident of Rawal Town, Islamabad, while attempting to snatch another car from Tauseeq Daniyal after firing. The Secretariat police have also registered a case against them for snatching cash and valuables from a man, he said.
