Chief Selector Moin Khan, who is facing probe of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for visiting a casino in New Zealand has been immediately summoned back to the country by the PCB to clarify his position in person. "We have decided to call Moin Khan back who is being recalled immediately so he can explain his position himself and by that time we will have a proper investigation report," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar M. Khan said on Tuesday.
Khan said, "I spoke to Moin Khan and he said he went to the casino and regrets the visit but he was there with his wife and a friend's wife." There was no further need for Moin Khan to remain in New Zealand and that he should come back to Pakistan, he said. "When I told Moin there are a lot of allegations against you, and even members of the Upper House discussed it in parliament today, he told me that all the accusations are baseless," Shaharyar said. As per interim report prepared by team manager Naveed Akram Cheema and submitted to PCB chairman, the chief selector regrets his actions, the sources said. In the report, team manager reveals that Moin was not staying with the team; hence, it was difficult for them to monitor his movements.
It may be noted that the PCB launched an official investigation into reports that Moin Khan visited a casino shortly before the team's calamitous World Cup defeat against West Indies. The sources also claim that ex-chairman of PCB Najam Sethi, who is now a member of the governing board, had thrown his weight behind Moin, while current chief Shaharyar Khan was strictly in favour of ordering Moin back to Pakistan.
Moreover, PCB spokesman says, "As a follow-up of yesterday's decision to probe the matter of the visit of Chief Selector PCB to a casino in Christchurch, PCB has instituted an inquiry into the incident. Today, consultations have taken place over telephone with Chief Selector Moin Khan, Pakistan team management and media personnel currently in Australia and with other sources."
While there are widespread allegations into the conduct of the Chief Selector having brought the image of Pakistan and PCB into disrepute, there is no concrete proof available to substantiate the allegations against Moin Khan. Considering the sentiments of the public, media and various other stakeholders, Chairman PCB Shaharyar M. Khan has ordered Moin to return back to Pakistan immediately to explain his position vis-a-vis his visit to the casino.
