Pakistan provisionally received foreign assistance of over $61 million in January (2015-16) against $112 million during the same period of last year (2014-15). According to the latest figures released by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), the country provisionally received $3.37 billion, ie, 45 percent of the total budgeted foreign assistance of $7.4 billion from multilateral and bilateral donors in the current fiscal year.
The foreign assistance received in the current financial year included $367 million grants and over $3 billion loans. The government budgeted foreign assistance of $7.4 billion including $6.5 billion loans and $808.3 million grants against $5.7 billion budgeted estimate for the previous year.
The IDB (short-term) emerged as the largest single lender with disbursement of $793.77 million in current fiscal year. It surpassed the budgeted estimate of $500 million for the current fiscal year. However, no amount was received under this head in January. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) disbursed $7.16 million in January while a total of $325.2 million has been disbursed so far in the current fiscal year against the budgeted estimates of 1,092.19 million. China is expected to be the largest single donor to Pakistan with a budgeted inflow of $1,365.49 million. The country received no amount from China in January; however $522 million have so far been received from China in the current fiscal year.
The IDA disbursed about $22 million in January while a total of $115.91 million were disbursed in the current financial year. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) released only $0.6 million in January while $14.43 million were released till date in the current financial year. The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) disbursed $121 million in the current financial year; however no amount was received under this head in January.
The United States released $4.6 million in January and about $64 million till date in the current fiscal year; Saudi Arabia disbursed $18.03 million in the current financial year, however no amount was released in January. Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) disbursed $0.11 million in the current financial year while no disbursement was made in January. Japan released $4.8 million in January while $62.54 million were disbursed in the current fiscal year so far.
The government has budgeted over $100 million from Australia, Canada, EU, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), Italy and UNDP for 2014-15; however no disbursements have been made under these heads so far, the documents revealed.
