Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed a probe into irregularities in Establishment and Administration Department involving an amount of Rs 11.5 million. The meeting of the committee was held here in the Conference Room of the Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday with Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaiser in the chair. Those who attended the meeting were MPAs Syed Jaffar Shah, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Mufti Said Janan and Idrees Khan.
The committee discussed in detailed the report of the Auditor General about Establishment and Administration Department for the financial year 2011-12 and took several important decisions. Expressing strong reaction over non-deposit of an amount of Rs 7.2 million in the provincial exchequer, which was recieved by the department for repairing of old vehicles during the financial year 2009-10, the committee directed the recovery of the amount from the concerned officials.
The committee was told that the Anti-Corruption Department had started investigations against the officials involved in the loot and plunder. The committee was further told that the Public Accounts Committee of the previous government had also ordered the recovery of this amount. After a detailed discussion, the committee maintained the decision of the previous committee and directed the recovery of Rs 7.208 million. The committee also directed the recovery of expenses worth millions of rupees incurred on the repair and misuse of petrol during the financial year 2008-09.
The PAC was told that the names of the workshops mentioned in the receipts were no where in Peshawar and the telephone numbers given could not be verified as well. The committee also directed the recovery of the amount of Rs 2.225 million paid to various officials of the Department of Administration and Transport under the head of TA/DA. Asad Qaiser directed the audit authorities to present audit objections of the present government before the committee.
