Proactive role of community coupled with reasonable and immediate investment in security arrangements is imperative to make Faisalabad crime free city, said Dr Sohail Habib Tajak City Police Officer (CPO). He was addressing a special function held at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to pay special thanks to the CPO and police officials who played an instrumental role in tracing the culprits involved in the murders of two businessmen during last month.
The CPO said that businessman Abdur Rehman was murdered on offering resistance during a dacoity's bid in People's Colony Area on January 14. After this incident, another young businessman Faisal Ali was also gunned down in the same circumstances. He said that these incidents fomented sense of harassment and insecurity among the business community. However, police accepted this challenge, worked hard and managed to trace the culprits involved in more than 60 reported incidents of the crime. He said that main culprit involved in these murders was killed in encounter while special teams have been constituted to nab the remaining and absconding criminals. He claimed the surge in crime has now been subdued after the killing of main culprit.
He said that the population of this district is eight million and out of 6,500 police officials, only 3,000 are available in police stations. Quoted a news story that Pakistani investors have shifted Rs 450 billion to Dubai during last one year, the CPO said that we could check the flight of capital by improving the overall law and order situation in the country.
Commenting on street crimes, he said that police force control this situation if 2000 motorcycles and only 1000 able bodied jawans were provided immediately. Engr Rizwan Ashraf president FCCI in his short welcome address thanked the CPO and his team for tracing the culprits involved in the murder of Abdur Rehman and Faisal Ali. He said that Faisalabad is a metropolitan city and street crimes are still haunting law abiding citizens. However, he hoped that police would continue its efforts with a renewed commitment and zeal to make Faisalabad Crime Free city. He said that FCCI had written a letter to Chief Minister Punjab requesting him to strengthen Faisalabad Police with additional recruitments. He assured that he could also have a meeting with chief Minister on this single point agenda if deemed necessary.
Mian Javed Iqbal former president FCCI also appreciated the performance of police in tracing the murderers of two businessmen but said that police should now take pre-emptive steps to avoid anymore loss of life in future. He also welcomed the proposal of CPO for making investment in security related measures and requested him to prepare a comprehensive security plan enabling business community to take first step towards this giant leap. Sheikh Abdur Razak father of slain Abdur Rehman and Ehtsham Javed cousin of martyred Faisal Ali also addressed the function and thanked CPO for taking the culprits to their logical end.
