2014-15: PAD sets 39.700 million tons of sugarcane production target

Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has fixed sowing target of sugarcane for the year 2014-15 at 1.690 million acres of land with production target of 39.700 million tons. Experts of the Agriculture department have advised the sugarcane growers that best season for spring sowing of sugarcane is till mid March and they should use only approved varieties for achieving maximum per acre yield.
They said for early sowing, growers should sow approved varieties including CP 77-400, SPF-243, CPF-237, HSF-240 and HSF-242. While for middle season varieties they should go for SPF-213, SPF-245, SPF-234, CPF-246, 247 and 248. While SPF-234 is only suitable for Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts, the experts mentioned.
