On self-help basis, the Operation Theatre (OT) is established with cost of Rs 1.1 million at Central Jail Hyderabad on Saturday to carry out minor operation of inmates. The ceremony of inauguration was performed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prison Department at Central Jail Hyderabad.
On the occasion, DIG Prison, Mazfar Alam Siddique said that there was a need of OT in the jail because recently inmates, sent to Central Jail, had suffered gunshots wounds. "We established OT here to carry out the minor operation rather than referring to the hospitals outside Jail", he said.
He said that the department has already improved medical facilities for inmates where the huge stocks of medicines are earmarked for inmates. In addition to this, the vaccinations against various viral diseases have been administered to inmates in the Jail, DIG said adding the inmates are more vulnerable to different diseases like Hepatitis. The inmates have more rights rather than other citizens, the department are taking all efforts to redress their issues at Jail, he said.
