An alarming surge in cases of robberies, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts, negates the tall claims of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police pertaining to controlling criminal gangs last month. According to data gathered by Business Recorder the overall crime rate has badly increased as the city police registered 32 cases of robberies, 56 cases of motor vehicles thefts including 14 motorbikes along with two cases of murder last month.
Last month the worst-hit area was within the limits of Margalla police station followed by Kohsar, Ramana and Aabpara police stations. Margalla police station registered 16 cases last month including four of robberies and 13 of auto theft including six cases of motorbike stealing. The Kohsar police station registered 10 cases of different nature. Out of 10 cases, four cases were of robberies and six of auto theft, which includes two motorbikes.
In the same period Ramana police station registered nine cases. Auto thieves have stolen three cars and three bikes from the limits of Ramana police station last month. Aabpara police station registered two cases of robbery and five cases of auto theft including three bikes. Industrial Area police station registered three cases of robbery and four cases of auto theft last month.
Shehzad Town police registered five cases including three of auto theft and two of robbery while Sabzi Mandi police station registered two cases of robbery and two cases of auto theft. Shalimar, Golra, Lohi Bheer and Sihala police stations registered three cases each last month. Bara Kahu, Koral, Secretariat and Noon police stations registered one case each of robbery in last 28 days.
Police sources said that the main reasons behind the rising incidents of car lifting, robberies and other crimes is due to ineffective patrolling and more concentration by the high ups of police on special duties. Sources said that a number of gangs of robbers and motor vehicle thieves are active despite tall claims of police for comprehensive security arrangements. Talking to Business Recorder a number of residents from different areas of the city said that they feel insecure on rising robberies and auto-theft cases. They said that the city police have completely failed to protect lives and property of the citizens.
