Chairman of Businessmen Group and former President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Siraj Kassam Teli has said that the visit of foreign delegates from various countries must have helped in clarifying many delusions about peace and security of Karachi as they must have noticed that the ground reality was contrary to what was being projected by the media.
Speaking at a dinner reception hosted in honour of foreign delegates from various countries who are here to attend Expo Pakistan 2015, Teli said that the overall security situation was not so bad and Karachi city, which is the economic and industrial hub of Pakistan, can be compared with any developed city in any part of the world. "Crime rate of Karachi city must either be equivalent or may be lower when compared with some of the developed cities including London and New York as these cities also face issue of street crime. Unfortunately, even a minor incident in any particular locality of Karachi was widely and negatively being projected by the media which gives a negative impression about the entire city", BMG Chairman added.
MNA Qaiser Sheikh, Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi Hadi Santoso, Acting Consul General of Republic of Iran, Muhammad Raza Bak Sehrai, Vice Chairmen BMG, Tahir Khaliq and Haroon Farooki, President KCCI, Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, Senior Vice President KCCI, Muhammad Ibrahim Kasumbi, former Presidents KCCI, A.Q. Khalil and Khalid Firoz along with KCCI Managing Committee members and delegates from various countries were present at the reception.
While welcoming the delegates at KCCI's dinner reception, Siraj Kassam Teli asked foreign delegates to participate in KCCI's forthcoming 12th My Karachi - Oasis of Harmony Exhibition scheduled to be organised at the Karachi Expo Centre from April 10th to April 12th, 2015. Around 800,000 visitors are likely to visit the exhibition this year which will provide foreign delegates a perfect opportunity to not only examine Pakistani products and services but also introduce their products and hold business to business meetings with their Pakistani counterparts. The exhibition also provides recreational facilities for families visiting the exhibition, he added.
Earlier, President KCCI, Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra, while welcoming the delegates, said that Karachi was the financial and economic hub of Pakistan, which contributes more than 68 percent revenue to the national exchequer. Ranking amongst top three biggest cities in the world in terms of population, Karachi was home to about 23.5 million dwellers which is even higher than the population of many countries like Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark and even Australia etc, he added.
Highlighting KCCI activities, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry represents the mainstream of economic activities by virtue of its location in industrial and commercial hub of the country. At present, Karachi Chamber has more than 21,000 direct members whereas the accumulated membership base of KCCI was more than 55,000 as seven Industrial Town Associations of the city are also affiliated with this chamber whose members can also avail every facility and services which are being offered to KCCI direct members.
He informed the delegates that KCCI also maintains a close liaison with Diplomatic Corporations, Trade Missions of friendly countries and international/leading chambers all around the globe. He expressed gratitude to foreign delegates for visiting Karachi, which would go a long way in furthering trade relations with various countries.-PR
