Speakers at a seminar held here on Sunday at Dr Ziauddin University focused on the gynaecology-related complications and their treatment. The seminar held under the chairmanship of the university's vice chancellor Prof (Dr) Pirzada Qasim was largely attended by doctors, teachers and medical students of different medical universities and general public.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Menopause Society's chairman Prof Rubina Hussain discussed the cognitive problems with menopause.
Prof Hussain, who is also head of Ziauddin University's gynaecology and obstetrician department, said that regular exercise, social activities and a balanced-diet were essential for having good cognitive performance.
Sherif Abdul Fattah of Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) highlighted application criteria of MTI Programme, saying that the RCOG which had been running the MTI scheme for a number of years currently has over 100 doctors from around 10 different countries and they are posted across the United Kingdom.
He said that preterm birth complications are the leading causes of death among children under the age of five years. He said that one million babies die each year prematurely.
Discussing the role of Interventional Radiology (IR) in the management of obstetrical and gynaecological disorders, head of Ziauddin University's radiology department, Dr Kashif Shazlee, said Interventional Radiology has a great impact on reproductive health, particularly the complications relating to pregnancy, childbirth and female fertility. "IR immobilisation is a safe, reliable and an effective treatment option for managing post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) and many other gynaecological emergencies.
Earlier, in his address, Prof Pirzada Qasim eulogised the services of Ziauddin University's founder, Dr Ejaz Fatima, in the medical field, saying that she had realised the vision of Sir Ziauddin Ahmed by establishing the hospital and the university.
He urged doctors, teachers and students to play their role in raising awareness about gynaecological issues.
Ziauddin University's director (Oncology) Dr Tariq Siddiqui, Dr Talha Abdul Halim and Shaikh Farhan Chawla also spoke on the occasion.
