On the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, the process of recruitment of special persons in the government departments and district governments has been started according to their quota, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Syed Haroon Ahmed Sultan Bukhari said, here on Monday while presiding over an important meeting for allocating quota in government jobs and providing facilities to the disabled particularly blind persons.
Provincial Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed Manhais, Chairperson Child Protection Bureau Saba Sadiq and senior officers of other departments attended the meeting. Bukhari said that all departments have been bound to advertise quota of government jobs for disabled so that after getting job they could also play their role in the development of the province. He said the government has fixed quota in government jobs for disabled.
Earlier, the visually impaired people took out a rally from Lahore Press Club to the Punjab Assembly on Monday, in protest against Punjab government for not providing them jobs under the special disabled-quota. Police hampered the protesters who were holding placards and banners.
The visually impaired people demanded implementation on two percent job quota and also warned that if the government failed to meet their demands they would stage a hunger strike. Punjab Government spokesman Zaeem Qadri said the provincial government has increased quota for blind people from two to three percent.
