Under the Punjab government's pilot project of "Education for All", 280000 illiterate persons would be imparted with primary level education in the 10 districts of Punjab during the cycle of fourteen months in first phase. An amount of Rs 1 billion has been allocated for implementing the project. This was stated by Special Assistant to CM Punjab for Literacy Rai Haider Ali Khan during the advisory meeting with the local NGOs here on Friday at Circuit House.
He informed that this project would be made successful under public and private partnership and services of the NGOs working in education sector were being taken as a partner in the education for all projects. He said that the annual budget in literacy sector had been increased from Rs 300 million to Rs 2400 million. He said that the pilot projects of "education for all" being initiated in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Okara, Lahore, Multan, D.G. Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Muzaffargar and Bahawalnagar with the assistance of NGOs in first phase and it would be spread over the province after achieving the successful results.
He emphasised upon the NGOs to come with the government for imparting education to the labour class for strengthening the base of nation to meet the future challenges. He wowed that the education for all project would be implemented with great passion and community participation.
Project Director Sajjad Ahmad briefed the meeting about the details of the project with participation of NGOs and said that a survey had been conducted through Lady Health Workers of Health Department and other sources to prepare the database for accessing the numbers of illiterate persons under which 10 districts of the province had been selected for launching the pilot project. The meeting was attended by Education and Community Departments includes EDOs Bashir Zahid Goraya, Asif Tarar, DO Social Welfare Chaudhry Ashraf, Deputy Director Labour Welfare Malik Munawar Awan and representatives of the different NGOs.
