Owners of certain MacBook Pro devices that have a problem showing graphics can now get the issue resolved for free with Apple, the company recently announced after years of customer complaints and threats of legal action over the defect.
Affected by the decision are 15- or 17-inch professional versions of the laptop purchased between February 2011 and December 2013. Apple has said that a small percentage of these machines might have problems with their graphics chips.
The problem usually manifests itself in the form of: distorted or stripy images; problems transmitting pictures to external screens; or spontaneous system crashes.
Fifteen-inch MacBook Pro Retinas produced between mid 2012 and the spring of 2013 might also be affected.
Customers can check on Apple's website to see if their machine is at risk. Anyone who has already paid to get the problem resolved can get their costs reimbursed.
