The Parliamentary Committee for Appointment of Judges has confirmed the nominations of Justice Muhammad Daud Khan and Justice Syed Afsar Shah, Addl Judges of Peshawar High Court for appointment as Judges of Peshawar High Court.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts was held at Parliament House on Tuesday. Senator Malik M Rafique Rajwana presided over the meeting, which was attended by Senator Farooq H Naek, Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel, Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, MNA, Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, MNA and Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA. Amjad Pervez, Secretary Senate also attended the meeting.
The Committee considered the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan made in its meetings held on February 28, 2015 and March 9, 2015 respectively. The Committee also endorsed the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan for one year extension in tenure of Justice James Josef, Justice Zafarullah Khan Khakwani, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza, Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, Justice Shahid Jamil Khan and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan as Addl. Judges of Lahore High Court and confirmed the nominations of Justice Atir Mahmood, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Miss Aalia Neelum and Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh as Judges of Lahore High Court.
The Committee while endorsing the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan in respect of Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Senior Puisne Judge of Lahore High Court for appointment as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court against the anticipated vacancy, on retirement of incumbent Chief Justice, Justice Khawja Imtiaz Ahmed on 28-3-2015.
In addition to above mentioned recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan, the Committee also considered a Draft Bill titled Islamabad High Court Act, 2010 (Act XVII of 2010) for amendment in section 3 to provide that the Islamabad High Court shall have representation from all the provinces, the Islamabad Capital Territory and other territories of Pakistan.
