In response to a raid by Rangers on party's headquarters Nine-Zero, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday said that criminal elements arrested during the raid did not have any association with the MQM. He also criticised the Rangers for violating the sanctity of the party head office during the raid, saying that MQM has always supported an action against criminals without any discrimination.
"There is no MQM versus Rangers contest ought to have considered the sanctity of party headquarter of a political party while conducting a raid," he said. "MQM felt insulted the way Rangers carried out the raid at party's head office and its allied facilities," he said and added that the party always respected law enforcement agencies and "it too expects the same from the other side."
He reposed full confidence in LEAs in their endeavours against criminals and terrorists. Reiterating his party's full support to the Karachi operation, Dr Sattar said, criminal elements should be arrested if they are present in the rank and file of MQM. "We have zero tolerance for criminals," he added. However, he said, that Rangers also arrested "innocent" people from Nine-Zero.
He accused the Rangers of committing "brutal murder" of party activist Syed Waqas Shah. He said that MQM possessed incriminating evidence that Waqas Shah was shot dead by the Rangers. He urged the Prime Minster to form a judicial commission to investigate the killing of Waqas Shah.
He said that Rangers arrested 110 people from the party office. Responding to allegation of illegal arms recovered from Nine-Zero, he said that all those arms that Rangers displayed during the raid were licensed ones that those were for security of the party headquarters. He said that MQM did not patronise criminal elements. "Negative propaganda is being unleashed that Nine-Zero is a 'No Go Area' for common people against facts," he said, adding that MQM erected barriers on surrounding areas of Nine-Zero due to security concerns.
"We are ready to remove all the barriers if government provides us fool-proof security," Sattar said. He criticised what he termed a 'disrespecting' attitude of Rangers towards blindfolded party leader Amir Khan who was produced before the court handcuffed yesterday. Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi criticised Pakistan Tahreek Insaf (PTI) for gloating over the misery of MQM.
