The Supreme Court on Thursday summoned on March 26 Sindh Inspector General Police in relation to a scam of Rs 1.23 billion regarding the purchase of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs). A three-member bench led by the Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed the hearing of a petition filed against the purchase of APCs by Sindh government from Serbia instead of local vendors.
During the course of proceedings, the bench also issued a notice to former Attorney General for Pakistan and lawyer Irfan Qadir to submit replies within a week over the "indecent behaviours of the latter in the court during the hearing of a case on March 11. Expressing surprise over the non-attachment of a Vakalatnama by the IGP Sindh for Irfan Qadir the bench observed that how a lawyer could plead a case without authority of a party to the case, adding that the IGP was not competent to hire the services of any lawyer in his personal capacity for a official matter in the presence of provincial interior ministry. The Advocate General Sindh told the court that the government has not paid any fee to Irfan Qadir; to which, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that the court will issue a notice to Irfan Qadir to explain in what capacity he has argued in the current case.
