The Met Office has advised the farmers to control weeds growth which are likely to reduce the yield of standing crops during the current rainy spell. "Weeds are expected to grow excess after recent rains. Farmers should control weeds growth soon after rains," the office said in its advisory for farmers. Farmers should control weeds growth at their growing stages to avoid their negative impact over the crops, it advised.
Similarly, the farmers of upper-half parts of the country and north-west Balochistan urged to be careful about irrigation and spraying chemicals on the crops. It said that farmers should ensure field sanitation and prophylactic fungicidal sprays to prevent spread of diseases on vegetable crops. "Wheat crop is in flowering/milk maturity/wax maturity stages. Farmers are advised to irrigate the crops keeping the expected rain in the agricultural plains of the country," advisory said.
The farmers of irrigated/ barani areas should remove weeds from the fields to utilise existing soil moisture fully, it added. Mostly cold and dry weather is expected in upper and central parts of Punjab till March 20. However, light to moderate rainfall is likely to hit upper and central parts of the province from March 13 to 16.
Weather in most parts of Sindh is expected to remain mainly dry weather. However light to moderate rain is expected in few parts of the province including Dadu, Ghotki, Larkana, Moen-Jo-Daro and Sukkur from March 14 to 17. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mainly cold and dry weather is expected. However, light to moderate rainfall (with light snowfall over the hills) is forecast from March 14 to 17.
