Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Law and Finance Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman claimed on Friday that PML-N government has distributed solar lamps to two million students last year under the Ujala Programme. The minister while meeting with youth delegations has said that during the current fiscal year laptops and solar lamps are also being distributed on merit under a transparent system.
"There is a need to use national resources equitably to set up a peaceful society and economic prosperity of the masses, whereas problems such as corruption, recommendation and unemployment can be controlled through good governance and transparency," he said. He said that Punjab government has provided Rs 2.40 billion for non-formal basic education to two million illiterate people.
He said the enrolment in public schools has increased to over 11 million because of measures by the Punjab chief minister and that DFID Head Richard Montgomery had maintained that textbooks had been provided in schools for the first time before the start of new academic session which was an achievement of the Punjab government. He also claimed that the Punjab government recruited 140,000 teachers in the last tenure and more would be recruited in a few months to accomplish the target of 100 percent literacy rate in the province.
