Pakistan Marine Academy: National Assembly body recommends construction of boundary wall
National Assembly's Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping on Friday recommended a boundary wall for Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA) immediately in view of threats to certain educational institutions. Acting Chairman of the Standing Committee, Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari chaired a meeting regarding the performance of Pakistan Marine Academy held at PMA.
The meeting was attended by the Committee's members including Sohail Shoukat Butt, Chaudhry Salman Haneef Khan, Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmed, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Shaheen Shafiq, Romina Khurshid Alam, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Khalil George, Mir Aamir Ali Khan Magsi and Muhammad Jamal Uddin. Speaking to journalists, Acting chairman Ansari said that an amount of Rs 60 million has been recommended for the safety of PMA, renovation of its three projects and other matters.
PMA is a fruitful academy and our committee would strive hard for its improvement and solution to other issues pertaining to it. Giving his suggestions to the PMA authorities he said that they should take steps for further enhancement in the educational standard of the Academy.
Earlier, Commandant PMA Tahir Jamil briefing the committee said that PMA is a training complex spread over a wide area. It is the regional branch of World Maritime University for conducting IMO Modular Courses. He said that PMA enrolls 150 cadets on open merit and 20 cadets through self finance scheme in Nautical and Engineering branches. The Academy had trained 2657 Pakistani cadets and 68 foreigners so far, he added.
