Mixed sentiments prevailed on the Lahore Stock Exchange on Tuesday where equities moved both ways and finally settled in negative zone amid sluggish trading trend. The LSE-25 index lost 6.74 points to 5731.48 against 5738.22 of Monday while transaction volume was squeezed to 641,800 shares compared with the day earlier volume of 1.077 million shares.
The market after opening on a positive sign witnessed a sharp rise and stayed in green zone throughout the day. The sentiments later could hardly remain intact as selling pressure dragged the market into negative zone. Pakistan Oil Fields, Hascol Petroleum, Engro Corporation, Cyan Limited, Dewan Cement, Maple Leaf Cement, Pak Elektron, Adamjee Insurance, Nishat Chunian, Askari Bank, Bank Alfalah, National Bank ended with losses while Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim, Engro Fertiliser, Lafarge Pakistan Cement, K-Electric and KASB Bank resisted pressure and ended in positive zone.
Losers were more than gainers as of 69 active companies, five posted gains, 19 suffered losses while 45 companies stayed glued to their previous closing. Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim gained Rs 1.10 while Engro Fertiliser and Lafarge Pakistan Cement were up by 99-paisa and 19-paisa, respectively. In the minus column, Pakistan Oil Fields lost Rs 9.73, Engro Corporation shed Rs 7.20 while Hascol Petroleum and Cyan Limited were depreciated by Rs 2.22 and Re 1.00, respectively. Askari Bank and NIB Bank topped the volume leaders with trading of 200,00 shares each followed by PIA with 65,000 shares.
