Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday declared notification to send Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Chairman Saeed Ahmed Khan on forced leave void and accepted his plea for hearing. A single-member bench of Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi had reserved judgement in the matter on March 10. Announcing the reserved judgement on Tuesday, the bench declared the Cabinet Division''s notification null and void.
The Cabinet Division had sent Saeed Ahmed Khan on forced leave in connection with the petroleum crisis in the country. Deputy Attorney General Afnan Karim Kundi contended before the bench that being the Ogra Chairman Saeed could have influenced the inquiry against the persons involved in the petroleum crisis, hence he was sent on forced leave. Saeed''s counsel Asma Jahangir pleaded that forced leave of his client was in violation of rules Announcing a short order in the matter, the bench declared the forced leave null and void and accepted plea of Saeed for regular hearing.
