President for making science a source of national progress: convocation of PIEAS held
President Mamnoon Hussain has underlined the need to focus on acquiring modern science, engineering and technical education for not only attaining academic excellence but also national socio-economic benefits. The President emphasised that scientific research and education lead a nation to progress and development. The President was addressing on the occasion of Convocation of Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), here in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The President called for applying new ideas and technologies for enhancing educational standards of academic institutions and imparting quality education. The President said, "Pakistan is going through challenging times and the country's economy has suffered due to various reasons. To put Pakistan back on trajectory of growth and progress, it is imperative to focus on scientific research and education, added the President".
The President said that developed countries are increasingly relying on use of modern technology and scientific research in developing and expanding their economies adding that Pakistan should also focus on these aspects for attaining economic growth. Stressing that education is the only way forward to attain collective national development, the President called upon academic institutions to prepare themselves for meeting future challenges. The President called for making science a source of national progress adding that its fruits should reach the common man, improving their quality of life.
The President said the government is taking measures to revive country's economy. The President expressed hope that proposed Pak-China Economic Corridor project would bring about economic revolution and stability in Pakistan. The President also called for national unity to attain collective national development.
The President also underscored the need on paying special attention on girls' education adding that women have an equal role to play on the road to national progress. The President called for focusing on the training and modern education for girls, so that they are able to contribute significantly toward country's progress and growth keeping in view their Pakistani identity.
The President emphasised on making concerted efforts to curb corruption and called upon the nation to discourage corrupt elements. The President said that promotion of education is his top priority adding that he would continue making efforts in this regard. On the occasion, the President also distributed degrees and certificates among the successful students. Congratulating the successful students of PIEAS, the President called upon them to focus on professional development and positively contribute to the welfare of humanity. The President also lauded the faculty of PIEAS for providing excellent education in disciplines of engineering, natural sciences and formal sciences.-PR
