Petition against detention of MQM activist: SHC gives one week time to Rangers, others to submit comments
The Sindh High Court on Thursday gave one-week time to the provincial authorities, Rangers and other officials to submit comments on a petition against detention of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) activist arrested for his alleged involvement in Zohra Shahid murder case.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M. Sheikh was hearing a petition filed by Qafia Begum seeking recovery of his son, Abdul Kaleem.
The petitioner stated that Kaleem was picked up by the paramilitary troops from Clifton area on February 25 and since then there was no clue about his whereabouts. Kaleem was kept in illegal detention by the paramilitary force, she alleged, pleading the court to direct Rangers personnel to release the detainee.
During hearing on Thursday, the petitioner's counsel told the bench that Kaleem was arrested in Zohra Shahid murder case illegally. He pleaded the court to declare his arrest illegal and issue directives for his release.
Sindh Rangers claimed on Wednesday to have arrested the key suspect in murder case of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Zohra Shahid.
