The lawmakers on Thursday took strong exception to the miserable conditions in parliament lodges, triggering a strong warning from Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to Capital Development Authority (CDA) to mend its ways or withdraw its staff from parliament and lodges.
During the session of National Assembly, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP)'s Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai pointed out the poor state of affairs in parliament lodges being managed by CDA. He disclosed that gas connection to the lodges was also no more due to non-payment of CDA bill, depriving the parliamentarians and their families to cook meal at their residences.
He suggested Speaker to direct the staff of the assembly to take over the management of parliament lodges by sending back the CDA staff. The concerns expressed by Achakzai were accepted by Speaker when he told the House that he directed CDA time and again to improve its working viz-a-viz parliament lodges.
However, he pointed out that all his directives apparently fell on deaf ears, as no improvement was made in the working and announced to hold a meeting by summoning CDA Chairman on March 24 in this regard.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also added voice to the concerns of the parliamentarians and suggested to issue strict orders for implementation of his directives as well as hold the authority responsible for contempt of parliament if his orders were not acted upon.
Upon the suggestion of Interior Minister, the Speaker said that assembly would write a letter to CDA to give time line for resolving the issues at parliament lodges, otherwise the authority would be held responsible for contempt of parliament.
Parliamentary Secretary Interior Mariam Aurangzeb told the House that action had been taken against nine quacks in Federal capital by imposing fine on them.
She said a bill 'Federal Health Care Regulation Act, 2014' was under deliberations for provision of a mechanism to ban quackery and ensure provision of quality health care services and patients' safety.
She said a special campaign would be launched against quacks as and when data of quacks was compiled in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
Mahmood Achakzai proposed that House should pass a resolution to empower the ministry to take action against the quacks as nobody knew when the bill against quackery would be approved.
Parliamentary Secretary endorsed the proposal of Achakzai, but the resolution was not tabled and the House was adjourned for Friday.
