Dead persons, closed businesses: FBR chief urged to order deactivation of users' IDs, passwords
Lahore Tax Bar Association former president Zahid Attique Chaudhry has urged Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Bajwa to order immediate deactivation of users' IDs and passwords who are not active since long so as to avoid loss to the revenue.
He voiced his concern over what he termed the misuse of old sales tax registered people in a letter written to the FBR chairman, he claimed that intimations regarding discontinuation of business as filed by the AR/Counsel of Registered Persons/Taxpayers, in case of person deceased or business discontinued, were not being properly entertained by field formation officials at RTO level.
He claimed that it had come to the notice of tax practitioners that some suspicious people were misusing the IDs and passwords of the dead or of discontinued businesses by retrieving these with insiders' help in the FBR system. These retrieved IDs and passwords are misused for the purpose of flying invoices which is a great loss to the revenue/government exchequer as well.
"As getting new registration is not easy these days because of the minute scrutiny system of FBR observed in this respect, there is an apprehension that such deceitful practices shall prevail with an increasing number if put not to an end with effective measures," the letter said.
