The University of Sindh (SU) Jamshoro and the City University (CityU) of Hong Kong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday to establish co-operative relations between the two institutions.
The University of Sindh has signed this memorandum on behalf of its Area Study Centre Far East & South East Asia (ASCFESEA). The Director of the centre Dr Hamadullah Kakepoto and the Director of Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) of City University Professor Mark R Thompson signed on the agreement on academic exchange between the two institutions.
The basic aim of this MoU is to develop the academic and cultural interchange between the two institutions in education, research and other areas of mutual interest and benefits.
The areas of co-operation include the disciplines of social sciences, in which both the universities believe co-operation is feasible and desirable and which would contribute to fostering and developing a mutually beneficial relationship between SU and the CityU of Hong Kong.
Under the agreement, the two universities would work together towards pursuing goals of internationalisation of education. They would also promote educational and academic exchanges, besides organising joint conferences, workshops and seminars.
On this occasion, Professor Dr Hamadullah Kakepoto, the Director of ASCFESEA, SU, said programs like the exchange of students on post-doctoral levels, joint-research activities or projects, staff development projects and special short-term academic program will prove to be beneficial for our students and faculty members. This MoU has been signed for a period of three years.
He extended his thanks and good wishes to his counterpart of CityU Professor Mark R Thompson for posing confidence in Sindh Varsity in working together towards achieving excellence in higher education in sociology, strategic studies, economics, international relations, criminology, and political science.
Dr Kakepoto further said: The Sindh University is committed to nurturing and developing students' talent and creating applicable knowledge to support social and economic advancement.
