The Pakistan Day is being celebrated in a befitting manner in Lahore and other cities and towns of Punjab with renewed dedication to make Pakistan a peaceful, prosperous, self-reliant and Islamic Welfare State today.
The day will start with 21gun salute, special prayers in mosques and other places of worship for peace and prosperity of the country. A colourful change of guard ceremony will be held at the mausoleum of poet philosopher Dr Muhammad Iqbal, followed by wreath laying by various political, cultural and educational organisations.
The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has arranged a thrilling Azam-e-Pakistan Parade today to mark Pakistan Day. The aim of this parade is to convey the message that entire nation is united and committed to eradicate terrorism from the country.
Pakistan Parade will start from Liberty Roundabout and will end at the same place after passing through Main Market Gulberg. The Pakistan Day Parade held a full dress rehearsal on Sunday. As many as 25 marching bands, 25 buggies traffic police squad, Rescue 1122 squad, Lahore Flying Club, players of Pakistan hockey team, wrestlers, TV and film stars, scholars, old and antique vehicles, heavy motorbikes, dancing horses and animals from Lahore Zoo will be part of parade today.
The parades include culture and history of Pakistan, culture of Lahore, peace and development, and brotherhood. Several parades will travel along Jail road, the canal, the Mall and Chamber of Commerce Road and will meet at Racecourse Park where a musical concert and firework will follow.
An impressive ceremony is being held at the Governor House to mark the day. Acting Punjab Governor Rana Muhammad Iqbal will confer civil awards upon outstanding personalities on account of their remarkable services in various fields including education, health, journalism, science, art and literature. The civil awards include Sitara-e-Imtiaz, pride of performance, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
The Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust has arranged a symposium to be chaired by former President of Pakistan Muhammad Rafique Tarar at the Aiwan-e- Majlis-e-Karkunan- Tekrik-e-Pakistan on the Mall Road to highlight the importance of the day.
Former Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam will speak at a colourful function arranged by the TECH Society Club today. Former Judge Supreme Court, Fazal Karim, Professor Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi, former head of political science department Punjab University and political activist Qayyum Niazami will also address the function.
