Former Interior Minister and Sindh Governor Lieutenant General (retd) Moinuddin Haider said that the incumbent government and military leadership were on the 'same page' for bringing political stability and eliminating internal security threats to transform Pakistan into a stable economic power.
He was speaking at the plenary session of 14th Convention of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Sindh, held at a local hotel, here on Monday.
Three plenary and six technical sessions were held on the 2nd plenary
day of 14th PIMA Sindh Convention where senior faculty members from medical universities and colleges as well as consultants speak on causes, treatment and prevention of various diseases as well as new research in disease management in the world.
Moinuddin claimed that Pakistani rulers and military establishment had realised that in order to take advantage of country's natural resources, geographical importance and better utilisation of human resource, there was an urgent need of long-term stability so that efforts could be made to progress on the front of economy and prosperity.
"Our leaders know that peace and political stability is vital for the Chinese investment of $45 billion to create an economic corridor, extraction and utilisation of country's coal, gold and copper reserves, building power plants and fetching further foreign investment to the country," he observed.
He said that there was no need for becoming depressed and losing hope as there were many positive things happening in the country while it was slowly heading to its original and right direction of progress and prosperity.
Mentioning about extension in Pakistan's continental shelf and inclusion of 50,000 sq kilometers sea into country's sea limits, presence of vast coal, gold and copper reserves, he said Pakistan's relations with United States and Afghanistan were getting on right track and days were not far when Pakistan would be fully utilising its natural and human resources for development instead of worrying about internal and external security threats.
Renowned economist Dr Shahid Hassan Siddiqui said that despite having trust of the people, government's economic team was not making any efforts to provide any relief to masses on the economic front and claimed that instead of broadening tax base, indirect taxes were being imposed on the people.
"Pakistan is the country which does not need foreign funding and loans if our economic leaders decide to broaden tax net, eliminate corruption and prepare pro-people policies," he added.
Speaking at an earlier session on doctors' issues, Secretary General of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Dr Mirza Ali Azhar said doctors were concerned and worried like every other Pakistani as entire nation was suffering due to worsening law and order and economic issues.
