President Mamnoon Hussain said Monday that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Qatar and wished to enhance co-operation in all mutually beneficial areas. He said close and brotherly relations between the two countries provide excellent foundation for consolidating bilateral partnerships in diverse fields.
President Mamnoon said this while in a meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani here at Aiwan-e-Sadr, said a press release.
Welcoming the dignitary on his first official visit to Pakistan as Emir of Qatar and members of his delegation, the President emphasised that the visit would go a long way in further cementing bilateral ties.
He said that Pakistan would welcome investment by Qatar in its ongoing and new energy and infrastructure projects and expressed the hope that Qatar would co-finance Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project.
He underlined that trade between the two countries required attention, adding that both the countries possessed the potential to further expand the bilateral trade volume for the mutual benefits.
President Mamnoon expressed the hope that Qatar would support early conclusion of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC). He stated that Pakistan also desired to increase defence co-operation with Qatar.
He highlighted that the Pakistani community in Qatar served as a strong bond between the peoples of two countries. He also congratulated the Emir of Qatar on hosting FIFA 2022 World Cup and offered to provide manpower to Qatar for the upcoming mega projects that are being undertaken in connection with FIFA 2022 World Cup.
