Initial estimates 1,095 barrels per day: OGDCL strikes oil at Palli field in Sindh
The Oil and Gas Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a significant crude oil discovery with initial estimates of 1,095 barrels of oil per day at Palli field located in district Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Managing Director OGDCL, Mohammad Rafi said during the ongoing fiscal year this was fourth discovery of the company and overall 104th discovery since the company''s inception.
Rafi said OGDCL''s crude oil production at present was a little over 43,000 barrels per day and within next few months it would reach 48,000 barrels per day.
He added that the area on the basis of 3D seismic survey is a reservoir of 13.5 million barrels of oil and the company will drill two to three additional wells to enhance crude oil production.
Commercial production from the well would start within a month, adding that the discovery will cost Rs 7,000 million.
"During the surveys and drilling process we have got important data from the block which shows the area has huge shale gas/oil reservoirs too and we will soon start exploring the shale oil/gas," Executive Director OGDCL Exploration, Mohammad Saeed Khan Jadoon said. He said the company is planning to drill 35 wells during the current fiscal year, of which 15 have so far been drilled and the rest have been marked which will be drilled during next three months. This will add significant oil and gas to the system.
At present OGDCL is producing 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas daily which is 31 percent of the national production.
The structure of Well Palli Deep 01 was delineated, drilled and tested by using OGDCL''s in-house expertise. The well was drilled down to the depth of 4,050 meters, targeting to test the hydrocarbon potential of Upper Sand of Lower Goru Formation.
Significant reserves of oil have been found at Well Palli Deep 01 in (Basal Sand & Middle Sand) of Lower Goru Sand formation which produced 1,095 barrels of oil per day at 32/64" choke size. The discovery of Palli Well Deep-1 will add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of the OGDCL and GHPL.
Rafi further revealed that OGDCL has reached the 104th landmark of hydrocarbon well discovery with Palli Deep-01 Well located in District Tando Tallah Yar, Sindh.
He said OGDCL is Pakistan''s premier and largest oil & gas exploration and production company which contributes 55 percent of Pakistan''s oil output and 31 percent of natural gas output. OGDCL is the top tax paying company in Pakistan with annual tax payment surpassing Rs50 billion.
