Pakistan People's Party Punjab will join the movement of Kissan Ittehad if the government does not accept their demands, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo while addressing a press conference after chairing a high-level meeting of the PPP Central Punjab, here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by the divisional co-ordinators, district presidents, members of the Executive Committee and the presidents of the allied wings of the party.
He said the PPP Punjab expresses total solidarity with the Kissan Ittehad. "The meeting has demanded the government to allow farmers to hold peaceful rally at Nasir Bagh," he added.
Wattoo said the meeting criticised the anti-farmers policies of the government while maintaining that it was in collusion with those who were bent upon to destroy the agriculture of the country which was the backbone of the economy.
On the question of local bodies' elections in cantonment areas, it was decided that the PPP would fully participate in the elections. It was also demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold election in cantonment areas on party basis as per the decision of the Lahore High Court.
Wattoo said the meeting has decided that a large number of PPP workers and office-bearers would travel to Garhi Khuda Bux to pay their highest respect to Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who sacrificed his life for the cause of the poor segments of the society.
The convening of the Workers Conventions in various districts was appreciated with the proposals that such conventions should be held in all other districts at the earliest. Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo expressed his satisfaction and congratulated the office-bearers of six districts for making the conventions a big success.
