An international symposium on family medicine will be held here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday. The theme of the symposium, which is being organized by the UHS Department of Family Medicine, is "Transforming Healthcare through Education, Training and Research in Family Medicine." It will be inaugurated by Chairman, Punjab Higher Education Commission, Professor Dr Nizam ud Din.
Former dean postgraduate medical education of Cambridge University, Professor John Biggs and Professor at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Professor Riaz Qureshi, are the main facilitators of the symposium.
As a part of this event, two pre-symposium workshops were held at UHS on Thursday. The themes of the workshops were "Integrating family medicine in primary healthcare", and "Establishing department of family medicine" facilitated by Professor John Biggs and Professor Riaz Qureshi respectively.
In this regard, UHS Family Medicine department's head and the organising secretary of the symposium, Dr Usman Jawad, said that the family physician had a central role in the delivery of healthcare in every country.
