The Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired the third meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Restructuring (CCoR) here on Friday. The meeting in the light of the recommendations put forth by the Cabinet Committee headed by Minister for Planning & Development, Ahsan Iqbal, examined the functioning of different federal government entities in the post devolution scenario, also ascertaining the effectiveness of the incumbent parent bodies to manage and run these entities.
There was in depth review of the spheres/subjects of health, tourism, sports, food, livestock which were devolved to the provinces after 18th Amendment and the concerned federal departments were then placed under different ministries/divisions/authorities.
The CCoR with consensus of the house recommended abolishment of CADD and also proposed to club Textile Division and Commerce Division under one umbrella of Ministry of Commerce.
The CCoR recommended that departments which had outlived their utility should cease to exist so that unnecessary burden could be taken off national exchequer.
The meeting in case of a number of departments/entities decided to shift their administrative control to other suitable Ministries/Divisions to improve their performance.
The next meeting of CCoR is expected to take place soon and it will further deliberate on other important proposals for restructuring of govt. bodies. Particularly matters relating to ministries of Science and Technology and Ports and Shipping will come under discussion.
Minister for Planning & Development, Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Defence Production, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Minister for Information, Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Education and Professional Training, Balighur Rehman, Minister for IT Anusha Rehman and senior officials of different ministries and departments attended the meeting.-PR
