Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has called for mainstreaming the Federally Administered Tribal Areas through brining legal and political reforms and to make appropriate amendments into the article 247 of the constitution for provision of legal and constitutional rights to tribesmen.
The demand was made by QWP provincial chairman Sikandar Khan Sherpao while speaking at press conference at press club here on Saturday, wherein political activist from tribal Khyber Agency, Noushad Khan and Nader Khan along with their families, and friends joined in the Qaumi Watan Party.
Flanked by the QWP chairman Khyber Agency, Syed Hassan and others, Junior Sherpao said it was dire need of hours bring legal and political reforms in the tribal region. For this purpose, he called for amending article 247 of the constitution to extend jurisdiction of superior courts to Fata.
He referred the government announcement for holding housing and population consensus in the next year, saying that the discrimination was always made with KP and Fata during the previous census in the country. He asked the government to hold population census in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, rather to only relay on estimation.
Welcoming the joining of political activists from Khyber Agency, Junior Sherpao said the party would be further strengthening in the tribal region. He said the decision was reflecting public trust upon the QWP, which solely political force to raise voice for rights of tribal people at every forum.
Talking about the ordeals of temporary displaced people (TDPs) from Fata, QWP provincial chief demanded the government to ensure return of internally displaced families from various tribal agencies in dignified manner and conditional to their respective hometowns.
He further called upon the government to announce a comprehensive compensation package for terrorism and militancy-affected tribesmen. "QWP will not tolerate any discrimination in provision of compensation or relief package for Fata IDPs", he warned.
Commenting on the current situation of port-city of Karachi, Junior Sherpao said his party wants to establish to sustainable and durable peace in the business-hub of the country. He said the action should be taken beyond any discrimination and political affiliation and groups in Karachi.
He however said that government shouldn't ignore in taking steps for brining peace in Federally Administered Tribal region. Because, he said the peace in Fata is vital for brining stability in the rest parts of the country. Therefore, he asked the government to adopt a holistic approach and strategy regarding development and peace in the Fata.
QWP provincial chief stressed the need for implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit. He responded the question of reporters said the civil and military leadership are on same page to root up terrorism and extremism from the country. But, he said there should be needed to sort-out a permanent solution of the Fata. In this regard, he said it was essential to make amendments into article 247 of the constitution and bringing reforms to mainstream the tribal region.
When asked about the QWP alliance for forthcoming local government elections in KP, Junior Sherpao replied that the district organisations have been empowered to take decision of making alliance with any political party for local bodies polls in KP. He, however, raised the question about proposed schedule of LG polls, announced by Election Commission of Pakistan, in which according to him, cited that local government elections would be held on May 30 in KP, while results would be announced on June 10.
He said the ten-days gap could make controversial and doubtful about the transparency in the local government polls, so he urged the ECP to review it and should give only one or two days for announcement of results of LG polls in KP. Earlier, the Noushad Khan formally announced to join the QWP.
