LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML) President Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Saturday claimed that people in a large number had come out of their homes Friday to receive PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

Addressing a press conference here at the party's secretariat in Model Town, he claimed that on Friday all the residents of Lahore were on roads to receive their leader, while the PML-N workers from across the country tried to make their way to the Lahore airport. Even the children were part of the rally that headed towards the airport, he added.

Shehbaz Sharif claimed, "I have never seen such a gathering of people in my entire political life."

He alleged that the PML-N leaders and workers coming from other cities, including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Narowal, to the provincial capital were stopped half way.

The PML-N President said he had made it clear that their rally would remain peaceful. "Millions had come out on his call and taken out a peaceful rally," he claimed, alleging that they were subjected to torture at Joray Pul and Bhatta Chowk areas of Lahore.

"Cases have been registered not only against our workers but also the party leaders who participated in the rally," he said.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had been terming him (Shehbaz) a dangerous person. Imran claimed to be the top leader of a political party, but he caused embarrassment for the countrymen by issuing such statements, he added.

Shehbaz recalled that media had broadcast live the PTI's long-marches, sit-ins, and attacks on the parliament and PTV building in Islamabad, and the party's those acts had disrupted the people's social life, besides affecting the country's economy adversely and the pace of development projects.

On the other hand, the PML-N government faced odds throughout its tenure, but it continued to work for the uplift of the common man by initiating and completing hundreds of development projects across the country, he added.

Shehbaz claimed that holding Nawaz Sharif 's trial in jail was against the Constitution.
