UVAS holds symposium: 'livestock sector can play vital role in economic uplift'
Pro-Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences Syed Babar Ali while addressing a two-day international symposium on dairy animal reproduction with the theme "New knowledge new practices" organised by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with the Society of Animal Reproduction Pakistan has said the livestock and dairy sector can play vital role in the economic uplift, employment generation and socio-economic stability of rural areas.
He said the livestock and dairy sector is playing an important role in the national food security and that it was a stark reality that the livestock sector based on modern reproductive techniques in the country is in infancy and there is a lot of space for modern research in this sector.
He also said the poultry industry in Pakistan witnessed a phenomenal growth. "This is the time for our scientists to step forward and pave the path for sustainable development," he added. He urged professors and scientists to look into strategies to improve the livestock productivity and health by the application of modern reproductive techniques.
UVAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the purpose of the symposium is to involve the livestock stakeholder for their inputs to achieve faster, better and shared development leading to economic gains at the same time fulfilling the consumers and importers requirements. He briefed his audience about the university's history and academic and research programmes, saying the university has developed state-of-the-art clinics, teaching, training, research and diagnostic facilities. The former vice chancellor of UVAS and Patron-in-Chief of Society of Animal Reproduction Pakistan Professor Dr Manzoor Ahmad were also present.
