Transporters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have urged the provincial government and relevant authorities to take stern action against transport mafia, and ensure implementation of taxes as per scheduled rates.
While speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Monday, Insaf Public Transport Owners Association (IPTOA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Ziaur Rahman said that the transporters are being charged with six percent high taxes against the scheduled rates by the mafia at Peshawar bus adda. He said that it is completely unjust with poor transporters community.
Flanked by the association vice president Mudasir Khan, general secretary Tahir Ali Bangahs, Haji Akhtar Gul, Syed Musarrat Shah, and others, the association president urged the authorities to restrict contractors that they should collect taxes at entry point of the Peshawar bus adda, while ensuring collection of taxes as per scheduled rates.
Rahman further said the tax collection process should be legalised. According to him, no contract was awarded to any firm for longer period, due to which transport mafia continuously harassing and forcibly being collected illegal taxes on gunpoint. He suggested the provincial transport authority (PTA) and relevant department to collect all taxes at various bus addas and stands, till awarding new contract to any company.
The association president urged the PTI chairman Imran Khan, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, to issue directives regarding collection of taxes at entry point of bus adda in provincial capital by following the decision of Peshawar High Court.
The transporters also strongly supported the ongoing provincial government drive against encroachment in the provincial capital.
