Participants of a consultative meeting of KP Working Group for Girls Education Initiative (WGGEI) on Legislation of Article 25-A in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has called for passage of Compulsory Education Bill from provincial Assembly with immediate effect.
The meeting of the working group held here under the auspices of Community Research and Development Organisation (CRDO). Representatives of civil society organisations, officials of the Education department were also present.
During the meeting, the participants were briefed on the Article 25-A of the Constitution, which provides that the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all the children of the age of five to sixteen years.
The meeting was told that after the passage of the 18th Amendment, the subject of education had devolved to the provinces and they will have to make legislation for providing free and compulsory education to all the children.
