United Nations Office Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organized a seminar on 'UNODC e-Learning Programme - Enhancing the Law Enforcement Knowledge and Skills' jointly with Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs) Karachi. The event was held at Directorate General of Training and Research (Customs) at Old Customs House building.
The seminar was aimed to enhance the awareness among participants about e-Learning platform's benefits, which is serving law enforcement agencies to train their large manpower efficiently in the areas of their respective mandates. As part of a capacity building initiatives included in UNODC's Country Programme, e-Learning is a computer-based training platform that delivers standard knowledge to Pakistan's law enforcement personnel in English and Urdu languages on countering criminal activity, drugs and the organized crime.
The Seminar was attended by senior representatives of drugs and border law enforcement agencies and their respective training establishments including Pakistan Customs, Anti Narcotics Force Pakistan, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Coast Guards, Sindh Police, Federal Investigation Agency, Pakistan Rangers Sindh and the Airport Security Force. It was also attended by members from the various Model Customs Collectorates of Pakistan Customs as a co-host agency of the e-Learning seminar.
Speaking at a seminar, the UNODC Country Representative, Cesar Guedes highlighted some of the joint accomplishments made by UNODC with Pakistan Customs including Container Control Programme. UNODC has been working with Customs to strengthen the capacity in risk profiling of containers, and enhancing the cooperation at other ports in Pakistan and abroad.
Provincial Minister for Education Nisar Ahmad Khuhro said the Government of Sindh intends to re-establish the rule of law and improve public perception through effective delivery of public safety services. He emphasised "we consider the capacity building initiatives in the law enforcement as an important activity, and in this regard use of latest technologies and through the e-Learning platform, the need for raising the capacities of our law enforcement can be fulfilled."
The Seminar was also addressed by the Customs Chief Collector (Enforcement) Nazim Saleem, Collector Customs (Preventive) S.M Tariq Huda, and the Director General Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Rare Admiral Ather Mukhtar.-PR
