Former Federal Minister Dr Ata- ur-Rehman on Tuesday said that the world would have electronic clothing in about 10 years as E-textiles sector was developing to provide the customers with unique products to wear. "In about 10 years, you will all be wearing E-Textiles," he told participants as chief guest on 'Thrilling World of Innovations' at the 3rd Pakistan CIO Summit and Expo held at a local hotel.
Inaugurating the function, he said that "clothes in the future will be embedded with these tiny E-Textiles (already existing today) that can monitor our health, project videos, make phone calls, change colours at push of a button, and connect to the Internet-possibilities are endless".
In the field of nanotechnology, he said that nano-cellulose, which is stronger than steel, being used to make bullet proof jackets. Similarly, nano-filters for purifying water, nano-medicines are far more effective, nano-electronics for minicomputers and buckyballs are set to appear soon, he said.
Graphene development, he said that the modified graphene which contained hydrogen, lithium, potassium and fluorine could generate electricity. Graphene-based particles are used to shuttle cancer drugs to tumors, he said, adding that batteries were being developed that charged 10 times faster and held 10 times more power.
Metamaterials, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman said that those were the new materials that could bend the rays of light away, materials covered with them just disappear, objects behind them remained visible, as Harry Potter's disappearing cloak was now a reality. It is being used for cloaking submarines, tanks etc, he said.
Earlier, Dr Ata-ur-Rehman also appreciated the efforts of the organizers and said that "the shows like this would bring a positive image of the country and highlight Karachi as a peaceful city where business is 'As usual'."
He also said that events like 3rd Pakistan CIO Summit and Expo 2015 and 1st IT Showcase Pakistan would promote IT and technology in the country, which may help boost the country's IT export.
The allied expo, 1st IT Showcase Pakistan brought together 22 companies from Peshawar, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi along with companies from US and Canada. The theme of the summit was 'Solutions for Tomorrow' and speakers, technologists and panelists spoke on latest topics such as Cloud Computing, Data Analytics and IT Governance and their adoption in Pakistan.
The event was organized by the leading event organizers of Pakistan, Solutions Inc with e-Creatorz as the 'Strategic Partner'. It was sponsored by the PTCL, GBM, Rapid Compute and Business Beam. Institute of Business Management (IoBM), National University FAST (NU-FAST) and PAF-KIET were the Knowledge Partners and PASHA, PSEB, ISACA Karachi Chapter, PISA, OPEN Karachi, MIT Enterprise Forum, Cloud Security Alliance and KPITB are the supporters of the show.
