Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Thursday called upon Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to deploy Rangers for NA-246 by-elections, saying his party does not trust Karachi police as it is 'badly politicised'.
Talking to media outside his Bani Gala residence, he said his candidate will contest election from Azizabad at any cost, adding it's the constitutional and democratic right of all political parties to contest elections anywhere in the country.
"The MQM must decide whether it wants democracy or politics of fear. It can stop anybody from contesting elections from Azizabad as it's our right and we'll contest from there," he added.
He said the time has come that Altaf Hussain must take bold decisions about his party and disband its militant wing through which the party has been terrorising the people of the city.
"The MQM has two options that it should decide whether it wants to keep its militant wing and goes along democracy as both things can not be managed at the same time," he maintained.
Imran also invited MQM chief Altaf Hussain to contest elections from Mianwali - Imran Khan's hometown - and assured his party's full co-operation if ever he opted to contest elections from Mianwali.
To a question about the Yemen crisis, he said that media has reported that government has decided to send troops to Saudi Arabia.
He regretted that Pakistan was wilfully pushed into US war against terrorism and militancy by misleading the nation and any such decision will not augur well for the country.
He suggested that instead of sending troops to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan should play the role of a mediator to restore peace in Yemen as its participation in the conflict will be disastrous.
Imran Khan expressed his pleasure over the victory of his party candidates Barrister Sultan Mehmood from Kashmir.
"It was the first success of PTI in the valley [Kashmir] and people will see how PTI defeats its opponents and the recent victory is just an indication how popular the PTI is in the valley," he added. He alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 2013 general elections by casting seven million fake votes, adding his party would approach Judicial Commission in this regard.
